Een enorm boeiend autosportweekend met twee belangrijke races, is ten einde. In Turkije won Lewis Hamilton na een achterlijke actie van Sebastian Vettel, en in Indianapolis won Dario Franchitti zijn tweede Indianapolis 500. Vooral de race in de Verenigde Staten draaide uit op een ware thriller, waar nog lange tijd over nagepraat zal worden. Maar ook over de Grand Prix van Turkije zal nog lang nagepraat worden, over de botsing tussen teamgenoten Vettel en Mark Webber. Een aantal opvallende uitspraken van de afgelopen week.
“A.J. [Foyt] and I were pretty good friends through our association with Ford. I drove [Banjo Matthews’] car after he drove Banjo’s car, and I drove the Wood Brothers car and he drove the Wood Brothers car. And every time I’d see him, I’d say, ‘When you gonna let me drive your Indy car?’ Well, I kept on, and he’d say, ‘You can’t drive an Indy car, you’re a taxi driver.’” – Oud-NASCAR-coureur Donnie Allison eindigde uiteindelijk als vierde en zesde in de Indy 500 van respectievelijk 1970 en 1971, racent voor A.J. Foyt.
“That bung shouldn’t have been there in the first place. He wasn’t looking to take it out because it wasn’t supposed to be there. When you know you have to take it out, you take it out, but when you don’t think it’s there, and it is, it’s a difficult one.” – Jenson Button neemt de monteur die de radiator blank in zijn sidepod liet zitten in Monaco, niets meer kwalijk.
“I call myself the Hélio of Indy Lights.” – Wade Cunningham, net als Hélio Castroneves een drievoudig winnaar op de Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
“Nothing strange happened: 12th place is what we deserve from what we have seen today.” – Fernando Alonso is eerlijk over zijn prestatie in de kwalificatie voor de Grand Prix van Turkije.

I kept pace car speed, which is what we’re supposed to do under yellow.” – Maar Marco Andretti kreeg later zijn welverdiende derde plaats terug.
“I was just thinking. This tastes just as good second time. Up until 10 laps to go, I was pretty relaxed. Then all hell broke loose with fuel savings and all. I just needed to know what the other guys were doing. If they were saving more than me, they were doing something special here. This means so much.
